Ohne Aussicht

Shane, Olga and I opened up a new art space in our apartment. Because of this architectural feature of a window displaying the wall, we named our space Ohne Aussicht which translates as ‘without view’.

Here is the Inaugural Exhibition from this Winter, the artwork of Ryan Smith’s “Useless Pyramides” within our shadow-box vitrine.

We made a pyramid cake for the opening, which will be followed up with baked sweets in continuous art shows.

Our next exhibition will display recent work from the Frankfurt based art collective Bureau Messel.

After Christmas I went to Berlin for New Years Eve where I met up with friends. The sun was down by 4pm and the days were shorter. When I returned to Frankfurt I was immersed in the day-to-day business, but I almost hibernated through the coldest part of the winter. I did not sleep through it all, but everything slowed down and being outside was hardly joyful.
The snow has melted, the temperature has risen, the light of the day is a bit longer.
People around Frankfurt are displaying more signs of energy and signaling that Spring is close.
I noticed the change when I felt good taking a winding stroll through Frankfurt, I was able to discover what was in shops and buildings which before I had rushed by.

I am looking forward to skateboarding again.

All month the Christmas Market (Weihnacht Markt) was full of tourists circling the kitsch. A special unit of guards posted themselves near the Nativity Scene, the ungainly Baby Jesus will not be stolen again. Snow had glimmered down, but after several days it had become a muddy slush layered on the edges of streets. The flight of Santa was being scrutinized by NORAD (http://www.noradsanta.org/) and the terrorist alerts were high.
Reports from TMZ declared that matching cozy Christmas sweaters were not in fashion, try again next year.
In my kitchen, I was chopping turnips and cleaning. Some people called to ask where it is and others wanted to know what to bring. Around 3 pm, my first guest arrived, then people trickled in with fresh ingredients.
It was party for everyone to hustle over each other preparing separate dishes and desserts: Passing the flour, curry waiting for the pasta, music tingling low and stories dished out.
With completely lined stomachs, we displayed YouTube relishing in this global internet identity…
